to hit the book = to study

It’s been about 30 years since I hit the books on this stuff, so can not longer give you the math without looking it up.

 

to hit the jackpot = to win (or to be successful)

I think we hit the jackpot with the advertising — our sales have doubled.

 

to hit the deck = to fall down or to drop down

There was two young ladies in here, and they saw people with guns run by the windows and they hit the deck…
